In July this year we opened our first Xtra Tall units onsite at Think Storage.
When people compare storage units, they usually compare floor space — but height is where a lot of usable capacity gets wasted. Think Storage's Xtra Tall "Bonus Capacity" units give roughly 30% more cubic space than a standard unit of the same footprint, which changes what actually fits.
Who this suits
Households moving a full home's worth of furniture, where sofas, mattresses and wardrobes can be stood on end rather than laid flat. Businesses stocking palletised or boxed inventory, where stacking height directly increases capacity. Anyone storing bulky, awkward items - bikes, ladders, garden equipment - that don't stack neatly in a standard-height unit.
Tourist Attractions with seasonal décor – Often larger than life displays need storage with Taller than Normal Doors and Ceilings!
Full confession! These Xtra Tall units a) suited the reuse of an existing shed which had full planning and b) were a request from an existing client needing to store Christmas Event Staging and décor.
How to make use of the extra height
The extra capacity only pays off if you pack for it: stand large flat items like mattresses and sofas on end against a wall, stack boxes to a consistent height rather than leaving gaps, and keep a clear aisle so you're not unpacking the whole unit to reach something at the back. Use Shelving to help make the most of the space…
