StoreProtect
Your contract with Think Storage requires you to have insurance or goods protection in place for all the items you're storing with us.
Think Storage is a member of the Self-Storage Association, and as part of good practice and our membership we are required to make sure every customer has suitable protection on their stored items.
Under our standard terms / contract, our liability to you to for loss or damage to your goods to negligence only up to a maximum of £100 and requires you to arrange insurance cover for Your Goods for the Maximum Replacement Value of your property. As an alternative, we can accept an enhanced liability for loss or damage to your goods which may occur during storage.
Whilst some home contents insurance policies do cover items kept in commercial self-storage many don’t so if you haven't checked this with your own insurer directly, it is worth doing.
We therefore ask all clients upon booking to either:
- Send proof of their own cover — a policy schedule or a letter from your insurer confirming your goods are covered for the full time they're in storage, at a realistic value. Or:
2. Opt into StoreProtect — our new-for-old goods protection scheme, so if the worst happens, you're paid out enough to replace items at today's prices, not their second-hand value. (There's a £50 Claims Admin Fee deducted from any settlement.) This can be done via your online account with Think Storage.
One of these does need to be in place as a requirement of your contract, not as an optional extra.
StoreProtect is an agreement by Us to accept an enhanced liability over and above Our Restricted Liability under Clause 30 of your Agreement with us (Contract) for loss or damage to Your Goods, as described in Clause 48, and the StoreProtect Addendum for an additional charge. If You opt for Enhanced Protection Cover, You have the option, but not the obligation, to insure Your Goods. If You do not opt for Enhanced Protection Cover, You must provide evidence to Us that Your Goods are adequately insured for their full Replacement Value, as required under Clause 31.
Valuing your goods - A few tips to get it right:
- Go through your unit item by item - don't just guess a round number.
- Value everything at today's replacement cost, not what you paid or what it's worth second-hand.
- Check receipts or similar listings online if you're not sure.
- When in doubt, round up. A slightly higher value costs very little extra, but under-valuing can reduce your payout if you ever need to claim.
It is your responsibility to inform Think Storage in writing if your items in storage exceed your declared value, see the Proportional Reduction condition in the Store Protect Addendum.
